2014 11 – DL7VOG

DL7 VOG Gerd got in touch with me via email after we had a few qso’s via rtty asking me to check his license application and assist with the process. We put it all in and got the ball rolling and Gerd was planning to be here in November 2014.
We got the license in time this time around ! YAY! Gerd and Erika were on island from 10th November, we met up on the 11th at the Bay Guesthouse in Gros Islet where they were staying. This place is perfect for radio operating, right on the water with a nice lawn on the waterfront where you can put up an antenna or two with the owners permission! Gerd put up a btv6 and a wire for 160 meters also right on the water front!
We had fun visiting with Gerd and Erika, we went out on Gros Islet for a few drinks and a few laughs…
We invited them up to the house for dinner, which was a nice time good food of course by Filita, that never fails!
We decided to hit the beach on the Sunday and invited them. Sunday we picked them up even though the weather was looking a bit iffy… but we set up the radio in the trunk and a buddipole on the beach and Gerd had some fun working a pile up! it turned out it was his birthday!!! What a day, we had a great time till mid afternoon when mother nature decided to send the rains… we packed up and headed home and hotel.
For the next weekend we asked the guest house owners if we could do a bbq on the lawn there, they had a nice grill riight there. Permission was granted to by next sunday we were ready for a good bbq right there at the guest house! We had a memorable time with Gerd and Erika, a great couple and language was not a barrier at all! 4 weeks here was gone in no time at all! We will miss you Gerd and Erika, maybe you will be back soon again…..
